Where Theory Meets Practice: Surgical Workshops at the Medical Simulation Center

Date: 11.12.2025 Categories: students

Behind the doors of our Medical Simulation Center, something more than just classes is taking place. This is where future doctors transform theoretical knowledge into skills that may one day save lives. Last Friday, we hosted another edition of surgical workshops organized by the Surgical Circle – an event that perfectly demonstrates what modern medical education is and why simulation has become its integral element.

A Gesture That Requires Hundreds of Repetitions

A room filled with concentration. Students lean over simulation tables – some holding a needle for the first time, others with precision developed through many hours of training. Under the supervision of Prof. Mariusz Chabowski, MD, PhD, they progress through successive stages of the workshop: theory, surgical quiz, and then what matters most – practice.

Precision and concentration – key elements during surgical technique training

Surgical suturing is a basic yet extremely demanding skill. It requires hand-eye coordination, a sense of tension force, understanding of tissue anatomy, and precision that comes only with experience. In simulated conditions, students can repeat this gesture dozens of times, learn from mistakes, and perfect their technique – all without risk to patients.

A Safe Space for Learning

This is precisely the power of simulation-based medicine. It gives students something invaluable – time and space to learn without the pressure associated with a real operating room. They can ask any question, make a mistake, and understand why it occurred. They can practice a procedure again, and again, until they are confident in their movements.

Medical education isn't just about memorizing facts or theory – it's about building self-confidence and clinical competencies that will allow young doctors to make the right decisions in situations requiring quick action. The PWr Medical Simulation Center creates exactly this kind of learning environment.

Investment in the Future of Medicine

Our Medical Simulation Center is one of the best-equipped facilities of its kind in the region. We offer students access to professional medical equipment, simulation phantoms, and spaces that replicate real hospital conditions. This is infrastructure that supports the development of practical skills from the first days of study.

Individual approach and mentorship during surgical workshops

Workshops organized by the Surgical Circle are an excellent example of how student activity combines with faculty engagement, creating valuable educational opportunities. Such initiatives show that medicine is not just science – it's also a community, mentorship, and a shared pursuit of excellence.

Voice of the Organizers

"The workshops attracted enormous interest. We prepared two skill levels, which allowed us to reach both those encountering surgery for the first time and those who wanted to refine their technique" – say representatives of the Surgical Circle.

Prof. Mariusz Chabowski, who led the practical sessions, emphasizes the importance of systematic training: "In surgery, there's no room for chance. Precision and confidence of movement are the result of hundreds of hours of practice. Simulation provides the opportunity to gain this experience in safe conditions, which is fundamental to the future career of every surgeon."

Education That Makes a Difference

Surgical workshops are just one of many examples of how the Medical Faculty of Wrocław University of Technology emphasizes practical student education. We believe that the best doctors are those who had the opportunity to learn not only from textbooks, but primarily through practice – in controlled conditions, under the guidance of experienced mentors.

We thank the Surgical Circle for organizing the event and Prof. Mariusz Chabowski for his mentorship and sharing his knowledge and experience. It is precisely such initiatives that build the quality of medical education and prepare students for their future mission.
