When families meet with the best specialists, important things happen.

A room full of parents - mothers and fathers, entire families with children - who came because type 1 diabetes is not a 9 to 5 disease. It's 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's hundreds of decisions daily. It's constant vigilance.

And it was for them that J. Gromkowski Provincial Specialist Hospital organized an event that combined medical knowledge with real life.

What happened?

The conference was organized by the J. Gromkowski Provincial Specialist Hospital in Wrocław

Dr hab. Ewa Barg opened the conference with a lecture on the history and present of Wrocław diabetology. Because sometimes it's worth seeing how far we've come.

Then came time for what really matters in everyday life: Dr hab. Katarzyna Skórkowska-Telichowska talked about parents' big challenges in small, daily moments. Dr Agnieszka Zubkiewicz-Kucharska showed how modern technologies - pumps, sensors, applications - can transform the lives of children and their families.

But the conference wasn't just about medicine.

The youngest conference participant

Dr Magdalena Drak and Dr Agata Trafalska explained why physical activity is not a privilege, but a necessity - and how to introduce it safely. Michał Dul, a PE teacher, spoke directly: children with diabetes can and should be active. No exemptions. No marginalization.

And in the third session? Emotions, relationships, everyday life in school and kindergarten. Psychologists, educators, psychodietitians - all at one table with parents, creating a space for genuine dialogue.

We thank J. Gromkowski Provincial Specialist Hospital for organizing this event. We thank the Marshal's Office of Lower Silesia Voivodeship for support. We thank all the experts for their knowledge and heart.

And above all - we thank the families. For coming. For asking. For not giving up.

The Medical Faculty of Wrocław University of Science and Technology is proud to have been able to support this initiative, which shows that medicine is not just science - it's people supporting people.

Because the best care is that which understands not only the disease, but the entire family.
